Maria Shriver in Dharamshala

The Dalai Lama, speaking on the 47th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising day

MCLEOD GANJ, India, 4 August 2006 — Maria Shriver, the wife of Governor of California and former Hollywood action hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, outside the residence of the Dalai Lama after a courtesy call. Shriver resisted being photographed and interviewed, and her security men kept her well guarded.

The secretary of the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Taklha, says it was a "courtesy call" by Shriver.

The Dalai Lama has been taking some time off after his doctors advised him to take complete rest because of his hectic travelling schedule since the beginning of this year.

"There is not a major issue with His Holiness' health. He feels tired because of his hectic schedule in the past few months and the doctors advised him to rest as a precautionary measure," Tenzin Taklha said earlier.

Shriver resisted being photographed and interviewed. She is visiting here for two days.

She later visited the Tibetan Children's Village school, administered by Jetsun Pema, the Dalai Lama's younger sister.
